Components are oxidised with nitriding if the corrosion resistance or the run-in behaviour is to be improved. This occurs in the Eltropuls plasma nitriding plant immediately following the programmed nitriding step. Switching the batch over to another furnace is not necessary. This reduces complexity and leads to better layer properties.
The corrosion resistance after plasma nitriding with secondary oxidation is considerably better than after burnishing because the burnishing layer is porous compared to the nitride layer.
