Secondary oxidation

Black, decorative
and corrosion-resistant

The optional follow-up treatment of nitrocarburised components

Secondary oxidation further increases the corrosion resistance of nitrocarburised components and gives the workpiece surface a black, decorative appearance. By applying the oxide layer, the roughness peaks of the surface are transformed into a soft phase. The run-in behaviour improves as a result.

Applications are corrosively and abrasively stressed components and engine parts with impeded run-in behaviour.

Compound layer: 8 – 20 µm
Oxide layer:
1 – 2 µm
Diffusion layer: < 0,8 mm

Some application examples:

  • Differential pinion shafts
  • Brake pistons
  • Pneumatic springs
  • Eccentric shafts
  • Hydraulic parts
  • Piston rods
  • Ball studs
  • Bearing seats
  • Camshafts
  • Switching shafts
  • Sintered parts
  • Tool holders
  • Cylinders
  • Cylinder heads
